grid_lined permissions post

This post is about how to interact with Ram in [community profile] grid_lined. Unsure about anything? Comment or PM me!

Backtagging: ALWAYS.
Threadhopping: use yr judgment; ask if you're not sure.
Offensive subjects: This is a program who pretty much has no berserk button, but he really has no patience for cruelty and if you're mean you pretty much go on his bad list. And do not diss Flynn without very good reason. (Given the plot of Legacy, your character might well have a good reason, and that would count for something. But don't just be hating the User on principle.)
Triggers: Ram's been dead before and is pretty blase about it, but a friend's death would be very hard on him. The quickest way to traumatize him is to confront him with a severe problem about which he can do nothing -- especially if it concerns someone he cares about, and particularly if he can be made to believe it's his fault. The only programs he's genuinely afraid of are Clu and Sark; he'd probably be creeped out by Dillinger Sr as well if he ever met him.

Fighting:
Ram is a diplomatic program who is more likely to try to talk his way out of a dangerous situation than to fight -- though he doesn't hesitate to pull out his disc when it's obvious that talking won't help. He has no compunction about derezzing anyone who threatens the safety of the Grid and the programs in it. He'll try to end fights from a distance, with his disc; he's a lightweight program and, though agile, doesn't take full-contact blows well. A major beatdown (in the form of his lightcycle getting blown up by a tank) once caused enough destabilization to gradually derezz him. In the new system, he's vulnerable to losing pixels and/or being completely shattered if something hits or stabs him hard enough.
Permissions: I don't want him killed for the time being, except in, say, dream or hallucination continuities; if you've got a plot on where an injured Ram would come in useful, PM me and we'll talk. \o/

Coding:
Ram has one disc, and his code is largely the same as the original actuarial program written by Roy Kleinberg in 1981, patched and upgraded for Flynn's Grid. He was a backup who'd never been rezzed until that point, but some time after Clu's coup, he located and integrated a batch of memories from the old system, and remembers nearly everything that happened to his former self as though it had happened to him. In a way, it did, and he adheres to it all accordingly. The memories were difficult to integrate, and anyone looking at his code will easily be able to see where some are still badly patched in. Part of the conflict prevents him from rezzing a lightcycle helmet, forcing him to ride without one.
Permissions: only Users and programs with code-edit permissions, such as Gorn or Clu, would have the ability to mess with Ram's code, and though he's inclined to obey Users on principle, he isn't likely to voluntarily trust anyone with his disc aside from Flynn and his own User (and possibly Alan-One) unless he gets to know you very well or is in an emergency situation. What you can do to it will also depend on your skill: he was written by Encom's lead programmer, and the upgrade patch was written by Flynn himself. Minor upgrades, such as speed, agility, or something else that'd just make him a little more of what he already is and wouldn't affect the plot, are allowed. For something heavier, like a virus infection, altered memories/personality/physical configuration (I'm likely to want such things to be temporary) or outright rectification (definitely temporary), PM me and we'll discuss it.

Shipping:
I am a gen-only player and so Ram will not be getting into any shippy situations. Otherwise: most standard forms of physical contact are okay, and comfort snuggling, handholding, and bff hugs are made of awesome; kissing will only happen in a nonshippy format, especially as programs back in his day didn't seem to even know how that worked.
Permissions: um, if I can have permission to avoid having him interact with in-comm shippage (not meaning to discourage anyone, it's just that I steer away from dealing with shipping), then yay!

Proximity:
Ram lives in Boomer's sector, which is a quickly-growing sector filled with new space for incoming residents. The streets are well-patrolled and ISO-friendly. And he's a really nice neighbor.
Permissions: want to live near Ram? Go ahead! :D Want to sleep over? Sounds fun! Want to move in? Well, maybe temporarily. PM me if you have a plot in mind.
